Es ist soweit! 6 Jahre nach ihrem Debut-Album „Are You the Enemy?“ veröffentlicht die Berliner Alternative Rock Band „ALIEN DRIVE“ ihr zweites Studioalbum „Ghostland“ .
Im Vorfeld dazu erscheint nun mit dem Song „Gun“ die erste Single, die mit geballter Energie und einem anspruchsvollen Thema daherkommt. Der von punk-rockigen Strophen und einem ausgesprochen eingängigen Refrain geprägte Song befasst sich mit der Suche nach einem Gott, der die Menschheit vor dem sie vielfach ereilenden Übel bewahren möge („We’re bleeding dry, will you save us or not?“). In Anknüpfung an diese Grundfrage wird auch das Thema der Selbstjustiz aufgeworfen, namentlich der Frage, ob und inwieweit der einzelne selbst zur Bekämpfung des Übels legitimiert sei („If I am the gun, then who are you?“). Die in „Gun“ beschriebene innere Zerrissenheit hinsichtlich der Bewahrung des eigenen Glaubens in einer Welt der emotionalen Verwüstung ist zugleich eines der zentralen Themen des Albums „Ghostland“, das diese Frage in verschiedenen Facetten und unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln immer wieder aufgreift.
Die Veröffentlichung der Single zu „Gun“ wird begleitet von einem eindrucksvollen Musikvideo, das neben rockigen Bandszenen mit einer mystischen und spannenden Story daherkommt.
Somit heißt es an dieser Stelle: „Anschnallen und gut festhalten!“ Die Reise in ALIEN DRIVEs „Ghostland“ beginnt hier!
Die Bitterkeit des Grunge im Britpop-Gewand – ALIEN DRIVEs zweites Studioalbum „Ghostland“ klingt so als würden Gavin Rossdale und Liam Gallagher nach einer langen Partynacht in den 90ern plötzlich im Jahr 2021 aufwachen. Grunge ist tot, Britpop auch.
Die Liebe, sie ist ebenfalls tot. „Ghostland“ ist das was übrig bleibt – die emotionale Wüste eines von Hashtags und Smartphones zertrümmerten Traumes. Dem Traum der letzten großen Generation des Rock ‘n’ Roll.
„Ghostland“ handelt von der Suche nach der verlorenen Liebe und dem verlorenen Gott. Der Opener „Victims on the Broadway“ lässt bereits vorausahnen, dass es hier kein Happy End geben wird. So startet das Album mit dem „Goodbye“ einer weiblichen Stimme, die sogleich von einer Gitarrenwand erstickt wird. Es ist die Stimme einer real verlorenen Liebe und eines zu früh beendeten Traumes, die ALIEN DRIVE mit leidenschaftlicher Verzweiflung in der emotionalen Wüste von „Ghostland“ suchen. Eine Suche, die sich auf der Platte in unterschiedlichen Formen präsentiert – mal anklagend, mal energisch, mal hoffnungsvoll und schließlich bitter. Starke Gitarren, melodische Vocals – mal seicht, mal kratzig. Das Album endet mit der nüchternen Erkenntnis der Kapitulation. Einer Kapitulation, die allerdings in Form der Hymne „Mind Erased“ erhobenen Hauptes daherkommt, mit einer gesunden Prise Britpop-Arroganz und der bewussten Abkehr von einer Welt, in der sich ALIEN DRIVE nicht mehr zu Hause fühlen.
Aber wer verbirgt sich eigentlich hinter ALIEN DRIVE? Nun, das war schon immer ein kleines Mysterium, da ALIEN DRIVE nur wenig nach außen preisgeben. Kreativer Kopf und Sänger der Band ist der in Rom geborene und aktuell in Berlin wohnhafte Marco Pirolo, der bereits im Zusammenhang mit ALIEN DRIVEs Debut-Album „Are You the Enemy?“ (2015) in Erscheinung trat. Weitere Bandmitglieder werden offiziell nicht genannt. Möglicherweise gibt es die auch nicht. Angesprochen auf potenzielle Tour-Pläne für das neue Album äußerte sich Pirolo kürzlich wie folgt: „Auftritte? Jep, für Knebworth kommen wir vorbei. Ansonsten nein, danke.“

Anticipating the album release, ALIEN DRIVE will be publishing the hit single “Gun”, a track combining high energy with a challenging topic. Characterized by punk-rock style verses and a catchy chorus, the song deals with the search for a God who may save mankind from the evil affecting it (“We’re bleeding dry, will you save us or not?”). In connection with this basic query, ALIEN DRIVE raise the theme of vigilante justice, namely the question of whether and to what extent one is legitimized to resort to stronger means when fighting evil (“If I am the gun, then who are you?”). The inner turmoil described in “Gun” regarding the preservation of one’s own faith in a world of emotional devastation is at the same time one of the central themes of the album “Ghostland”, which explores this question in various facets and from different angles.
The release of the single for “Gun” is accompanied by an impressive music video, combining a mystical and exciting story with highly dynamic rock band scenes.

The bitterness of Grunge in Britpop garb – ALIEN DRIVE’s second studio album “Ghostland” sounds as if Gavin Rossdale and Liam Gallagher suddenly woke up in 2021 after a long night of partying in the 90s. Grunge is dead, Britpop too. Love, it’s dead too. “Ghostland” is what remains – the emotional desert of a dream shattered by hashtags and smartphones. The dream of the last great generation of rock ‘n’ roll.
“Ghostland” is about the search for lost love and a lost God. From the opener, “Victims on the Broadway” we are instantly told that there will be no happy ending here. The album starts with the sound of a female voice saying “Goodbye”, only to be immediately smothered by a wall of guitars. It is the voice of a real lost love, of a dream ended too soon, which ALIEN DRIVE search for with passionate desperation in the emotional desert that is “Ghostland”. A search that presents itself in different forms on the record – sometimes accusatory, sometimes energetic, sometimes hopeful, and ultimately bitter. Strong guitars, melodic vocals, ranging between gentle and scratchy; the punk-tinged song “Gun” asks the missing God – “Will you save us or not?”, is there anyone at all, out there? The record ends with the sober realization of capitulation. However, in the anthem “Mind Erased” this capitulation comes with its head held high, a healthy pinch of Britpop arrogance and the conscious departure from a world in which ALIEN DRIVE no longer feel at home.
But who is behind ALIEN DRIVE? Well, this has always been a bit of a mystery since ALIEN DRIVE tend to avoid the public eye. The band’s creative head and singer, who already appeared in connection with ALIEN DRIVE’s debut album “Are You the Enemy?” (2015), answers to the name of Marco Pirolo, born in Rome and currently living in Berlin. No other band members are officially listed. And it’s possible that there aren’t any. Addressing potential tour plans for the upcoming album, Pirolo recently commented as follows: “Gigs? Yep, for Knebworth we’ll come over. Otherwise, no thanks.”
